On the 13th July 2019, Milton Keynes Bonsai Society is proud to present the city’s second Annual Bonsai Show! Featuring trees from Milton Keynes very own Bonsai club. Supported by some of the finest trees from clubs in the surrounding regions. It promises to be the highlight of MK’s burgeoning Bonsai scene!
Building on last years hugely successful show, we will once again be located at Milton Keynes Central Library. Right in the centre of town on Silbury Blvd. a short hop over the road from Centre MK. The show will run from 10:00 to 15:30.
From Bonsai enthusiasts to absolute beginners. There will be something for everyone. If you have never had the chance to see Bonsai up close before you really must come along. There is nothing like witnessing a quality Bonsai for the first time and it can be quite breathtaking!
For the uninitiated who may have only ever seen poor quality, mass-produced trees in a corner of a garden centre. It is a real eye-opener to see miniature versions of majestic and craggy old Scots Pines, dramatic Juniper with sculptural deadwood or beautiful. Delicate Acers that might be a hundred years old!!
There is nothing we love more than educating people about the wonders of Bonsai. There will be lots of our friendly club members on hand to talk about the trees or give advice on how to get involved.
Bonsai in the UK
The Bonsai scene in the UK (and all over Europe!) is booming as more and more people discover this beautiful Japanese art form. As it spread outside of Japan each country has brought local trees into the art. There are now amazing examples of Oak, Hawthorn, Elm and countless other varieties as well as the more ‘traditional’ Japanese Pines, Junipers and Acers. Indeed, many people don’t realize that Bonsai isn’t a special variety of tree or a species in themselves. They are in fact ANY tree that has been cultivated and kept in a container in a miniaturized form. ‘Bonsai’ is literally the Japanese word for a ‘tree in a pot’!
We will have a demonstration area where club members will show you some of the techniques involved. As they work on their own trees. In addition, the Northants and Milton Keynes branch of the British Cactus and Succulents Society will be providing us with an impressive display and an insight into their horticulture practice.
So, come along to see the region’s best trees on display in public for one day only.
If you find that you’ve been inspired, our new sales area will have a selection of trees and supplies to choose from and all the advice you need to get started. Be warned though…
…Bonsai is highly addictive!
We’d love to see you there and if you would like any further information about the show or the Milton Keynes Bonsai Society you can find us on Facebook or follow us on Instagram #mkbonsai where we regularly post pictures of trees and the latest goings on in our world!
